The past decade has seen the rise of new brands like Tesla, while older companies like Pontiac and Mercury have almost disappeared. Here, we’ll look at all the major car brands sold in the United States—including who owns them and what models they sell.
Acura
Acura is a luxury car manufacturer, part of the Honda Motor Company, which builds cars for the U.S. market in Canada, the United States, and Japan. The Acura RDX, MDX, and TLX are three popular models from this manufacturer.
Alfa Romeo
The Italian automaker Alfa Romeo is part of Stellantis, the holding company that was known as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles prior to its recent merger with the French PSA Group. Alfa Romeo sells two models in the U.S.: the Giulia sedan and Stelvio high-performance crossover. The company was dormant for more than a decade before returning to the American market with its Alfa Romeo 4C sports car in 2015.
Aston Martin
Aston Martin, a British supercar company, is headquartered in England. Aston Martin produces a series of high-end sports cars, including DB11 and DBS, the Aston Martin Vantage; as well as their first SUV—the DBX. The publicly-traded company, once owned by the Ford Motor Company, has gone bankrupt seven times in its more than 100-year history.

The German automaker Audi is owned by the Volkswagen Group. It markets a variety of cars and SUVs in the U.S., including the Audi A4 sedan, Audi Q8 SUV, and sports car—the R8. Audi assembles its cars at plants around the globe.
BMW
BMW, based in Munich, Germany, sells a wide range of cars and SUVs to consumers across the United States. The BMW Group includes the iconic BMW 3 Series and an array of sport utility vehicles, including the X3, X5, and X7. While all of its cars are built in Germany, most of the company’s SUVs are made in South Carolina.
Bentley Motors
Bentley, now owned by Germany’s Volkswagen Group, is an iconic British ultra-luxury car maker. Today, the company builds three lines of vehicles: the Flying Spur line of sedans, Continental sports coupe and convertible series, and Bentayga range crossovers.
